I’ve never been fond of alcohol—sure, I enjoy a few beers—but I’ve seen firsthand how it can tear lives apart, leaving behind shattered dreams and broken souls. I was just a teenager in the ‘90s when the rave scene exploded, a whirlwind of neon lights, pulsating beats, and endless nights. I was there, right in the heart of it—Circus Circus, Kelly’s, Fabric—and trust me, I’ve lived through it all. But for a small, tight-knit group of friends and me, it was never just about those fleeting nights of reckless abandon, no matter how amazing they were. It was about something deeper, something that kept calling us back.
It was the DAM—Amsterdam—a place where the world felt both infinite and intimate all at once. And that’s where it all began—the love affair.
We’d save every penny, every pound, counting down the days until we could escape the mundane and chase something far more exhilarating. The journey itself was part of the magic—the flight, the train to Amsterdam Centraal, the short trek down Damrak, and the familiar check-in at The Winston. Bags down, hearts racing, and straight out the door for what was always the first stop of our coffeeshop experience—Hill Street Blues. Great coffee, great service, and hands down the best Northern Lights in town. That first inhale, that first sip—it set the tone for the days ahead.
Every trip was an experience in itself. The rarest, richest beans—Kopi Luwak, Blue Mountain—each cup a ritual, each sip a moment suspended in time. And the strains—those sticky, unforgettable strains—Hindu Kush, Northern Lights, AK-47, White Widow—each one a portal to another world.
